One hundred years ago, 1905, in Bern, Switzerland, a patent clerk wrote five short articles that changed the world and our understanding of it. It is this amazing story that Prof. Thomas Zurbuchen from the University of Michigan will retell in a novel audio-visual science show. The presentation focuses first on the human dimension of this story. The 1905 articles are then reviewed using experiments and animations thereof, concentrating on the revolutionary character of Einstein’s work. In the third and final part, a few key impacts of these papers are explored.

Prof. Thomas Zurbuchen has a PhD in Astrophysics from the University of Bern, Switzerland and is now Professor at the University of Michigan. He is a recent winner of the US Presidential Early Career Award, which represents the highest honor bestowed by the U.S. government on scientists and engineers beginning their independent careers.

To commemorate the 100th anniversary of Albert Einstein's achievements, please join us for this exciting evening reception "1905 - Einstein and Bern, A Year to Remember", which will be enriched by an exhibition on Einstein’s life and work that swissnex will be hosting at the same time.
