Louise Roux’s account of first all Swiss university alumni gathering at swissnex.
Forum for Alumni
A handful of lucky University of Geneva (UNIGE) alumni and friends mingled with Swiss diplomats, journalists, political leaders, and scholars at the St. Francis Yacht Club on August 1st, 2010, to celebrate Swiss National Day and toast the 2010 Global Forum on Modern Direct Democracy.
UNIGE representative Louise Roux invited the local alumni community to attend the festivities hosted by the Consul General of Switzerland in San Francisco, Julius F. Anderegg, and the Swiss Confederation. The reception marked both the independence of Switzerland, which began with the Grütli Pact of 1291, as well as the five-day international conference on direct democracy taking place on the UC Hastings College of Law campus.
UNIGE alumni and friends had the opportunity to meet and hear from conference speakers including Mr. Anderegg; Bruno Kauffman, director of the Initiative & Referendum Institute Europe; Marcia Fritz, President of the California Foundation for Fiscal Responsibility; Andreas Gross, member of the Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly; filmmaker Joel Marsden; and Suresh Nautiyal, leader of the UKPP (Uttarakhand Parivartan Party), India’s first green party.
