The 10th World Conference of Science Journalists will bring together 1,200–1,400 professionals dedicated to engaging, incisive, accurate, and high-quality science journalism. The conference will build global capacity for science communication and provide an opportunity for journalists to explore cutting-edge science as well as crucial issues at the interface of science and society.
This year, for the first time, Switzerland is coordinating a joint effort to bring a selection of the best of Swiss science and science journalism to the World Conference of Science Journalists. The Swiss Association of Science Journalism joined forces with its French and Italian counterparts to create an “Alpine Bid” to host the 2019 edition of the conference in Lausanne. The final decision will be announced during WCSJ2017.
The main conference activities will be based at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in the heart of downtown San Francisco. There, swissnex San Francisco is installing a Swiss pavilion set to a background theme of mountains, just like the Alpine Bid, and featuring the Swiss Touch table. Designed by Nadezda Suvorova, this “Swiss Science Lounge” will showcase Switzerland’s excellence in scientific research and support the Swiss delegates in their networking efforts. The Swiss Touch table will become the site for an on-going conversation on science journalism that will be recorded and transformed into a public podcast series.
Swiss Science Lounge is part of the #SwissTouch Campaign, a series of events highlighting Switzerland’s innovative and forward-looking edge. Learn more at swisstouchusa.org.
