Digital Art Scholarship in San Francisco

New technologies are enabling new possibilities for artistic expression. The Bay Area is not only home to big technology companies, like Facebook or Google, but is also the birthplace of a unique international scene of hackers and pioneers in digital art.

The City of Zurich is excited to offer a scholarship for a digital artist in San Francisco. The Cultural Department will award a residency to a Zurich-based artist in the field of Digital Arts from May 1 to July 31, 2019. The scholarship includes access to swissnex San Francisco’s network, a room in The Laundry SF, as well as a monthly contribution of CHF 2’000.

Selection Criteria

The main selection criteria for the residency is the personal and artistic motivation. If you would like to apply, the City of Zurich asks you to submit the following documents (please collate these documents into one PDF file):

  • Letter of motivation
  • Short outline of the current project
  • Biography

The awarding process is regulated according to the studio policy of the City of Zurich as follows: The received applications will be collected and forwarded to the awarding committee. This body examines the dossiers and then decides on the award of the scholarship.

The selection process is guided by the general criteria of cultural promotion, to be found in the vision statement of the Department of Culture:

  • Artistic expression
  • Impact of the artistic work and productivity (productions, prizes and awards, scholarships etc.)
  • Potential (innovative power, autonomy of the work)

Please mail the application to niklaus.riegg@nullzuerich.ch. Deadline: November 30, 2018. More information here (in German).
