Exploring Digital Business
What is the perfect finish for a Digital Business master’s program? A trip to Silicon Valley, if you ask us.
In June 2014, students of the University of Applied Sciences in Business Administration Zurich(HWZ), the first Swiss university to offer a master’s degree in that field, did exactly that. Twelve students spent a week in the San Francisco Bay Area to participate in a study tour curated and co-organized by swissnex San Francisco and HWZ.
The week was packed with visits to companies that are successfully doing business digitally, such as Airbnb, Facebook, and LinkedIn as well as more established companies like Nestlé, that have a presence in the Valley in order to soak up innovation from startups and the entrepreneurial ecosystem.
Highlights included a visit to a bank that is more a co-working space than a typical branch, CapitalOne 360 in San Francisco:
Then there was a workshop on digital transformation that challenged the participants’ ideas of how to approach a problem and find a solution.
