Free Electrons is a global energy startup accelerator program that connects the world’s most promising startups with leading utility companies to co-create the future of energy and innovative customer solutions. swissnex San Francisco is co-managing the program alongside New Energy Nexus, a program of the California Clean Energy Fund.

Free Electrons presents an unprecedented opportunity for later-stage energy startups to gain access to the utility partners that can help them scale and expand into new markets around the world.

The utility partners in Free Electrons are leaders in the clean energy transition, covering more than 40 countries, representing over $148 billion in combined net income and access to over 73 million end customers worldwide.

Twelve startups will be chosen to participate in the Free Electrons Accelerator which consists of three separate week-long ‘customer adoption’ modules in Silicon Valley, Lisbon/Dublin, and Singapore, where they have the opportunity to meet with investors, attend leadership trainings and engage with utility decision makers in the hope of landing a contract and/or strategic investment during the program or trialing their service with one of the utilities.

Utility Program members include AusNet Services (Australia), Dubai Electricity and Water (DEWA) (UAE), Electricity Supply Board (Ireland), Energias de Portugalinnogy (Europe), Origin Energy (Australia), Singapore Power, and Tokyo Electric Power Company Holdings (Japan).

APERIO Systems: A software startup that allows for real time tracking of cyber hacking and attempts to artificially manipulate data, aimed at reducing attempts at damaging infrastructures such as power grids.

BeON: A hardware startup that specializes in design and manufacture of microinverters based on innovative quality methodologies in order to help improve businesses and optimize solar energy intake. 

Climote: A home heating control system that allows users to monitor and change the temperature of their homes through a smartapp. The climote software also builds a customized database for users to track personal energy consumption.

HST Solar: A software platform that reduces the overall cost of solar energy using an integrated approach that allows for computational processes to design solar systems without manual labor. 

Dataglen: A cloud based software that specializes in industrial IoT management and development of customized monitoring solutions for solar power plants. 

Ohmconnect: A software startup that monitors real time conditions on electricity grids that notifies users when ‘dirty’ energy is being used. This system incentivises end-users to limit energy consumption during these given times in order to limit use of unclean energy and in return allows for consumers to receive monetary compensation at the end of the year.

EthosGen: Specialize in converting low-grade waste heat into electrical power. Developed an innovative system that provides sustainable production of electrical energy through conversion of waste heat from sources such as industrial, solar, biomass, and manufacturing.

Tempus:  Specializes in market forecasting of energy prices in real time. Software processes data in real time and combines market forecasting with the ability to predict electricity usage and understand how flexible assets perform in different conditions.

Simple Energy:  Offer adigital customer engagement platform that allows customers to account for overall energy usage in a quantifiable manner. Transform consumption data into digital experiences that provide customers with energy insights, an energy community, and energy rewards. 

Greencom Networks: Enable the management of energy demand, supply and storage capacity within VP plants for evolving energy markets. Developed a software that allows utilities to integrate micro-producers into their offering, overall increasing the general efficiency of the network.

Depsys:  Offer a real-time control platform for the management of low voltage grids. The system’s connected smart modules measure network parameters and guarantee network quality and optimization of energy flows, both in connected as well as micro grid environments.

Driivz:  Developed a cloud based software platform that offers operations management, grid management, user management, public and workplace charging management.
